Spituk to Stok Trek
Overview
A part of the unexplored Markha Valley Trek - a well know trek famous for wild animals, the Spituk-Stok Trek is one of the most beautiful and easy treks in Ladakh which gives a taste of typical Ladakh experience. It is a perfect moderately difficult trek, for travellers, low on time still looking to explore the rich bio-diversity of Ladakh’s cold desert landscape. During the trek we also get opportunity to tread through the Stok La Pass (4900 m) which commands great views of the Indus valley and finally the descent through narrow valleys and lovely rock patterns will bring you to the village of Stok before heading to Leh.

Day 1 - In the early morning flight from Delhi, the plane flies over the Himalayan Range providing amazing overhead view of the whole mountain range with gigantic glaciers and glaring peaks before it brings us to Leh, a fertile valley just to the north of the mighty Indus River (this flight is subject to appropriate weather and perfect flying conditions). Upon arrival, we transfer to the hotel. By the time your check-in is organized, our representative would introduce the tour file to you and handover the tour documents. Late afternoon, we take a pleasant short walk in the valley around Leh, and its bazaars to acclimatize ourselves to the altitude (3,500m). After breakfast we take a pleasant short walk in the valley around Leh, heading first to Shanti Stupa. The two-level stupa features a photograph of the current Dalai Lama with the relics of the Buddha at its base. Later we visit Gyamsa village before moving onto Leh Palace. Bearing a passing resemblance to the Potala Palace in Lhasa (Tibet), this nine-storey dun-coloured building took shape under 17th century king Sengge Namgyal. Essentially it has been unoccupied since the Ladakhi royals were stripped of power in 1846. Rest of the day is at leisure for Acclimatization to the altitude (Leh is 3,500 metres above sea level).

Day 2 - We take a short drive from Leh to Spituk, the first Gelugpa Monastery in Ladakh. After visiting the monastery we drive along a new road that takes us across the Indus towards Zingchen, the starting point of our trek. While our ponies are being loaded up we start our walk into the Zingchen Gorge at the foot of the Stok Mountains. The trail is straight forward as we follow the Zingchen Nala upstream. An ever-changing panorama of fantastic colored mountains surrounds us as we ascend the valley. We may have to cross the stream as it forces its path closer to the side of the valley. Suddenly the valley widens and reveals the snow-topped peaks of the Stok Mountains. Prayer flags on a wide pasture mark the junction where the trail leads to Rumbak Village, our campsite that provides stunning views all around. Duration of Trekking: 3-4 hrs.

Descend all the way down to Stok Village, where you have an option to visit Stok Palace Museum.
